Terms of Use

Last updated: September 4, 2026

These terms govern your use of ChemistryGo, operated by Michael Goldsmith, a sole proprietor based in New Jersey, United States. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. They are written in plain language on purpose, and nothing in them is intended to be a surprise.

Using the site

ChemistryGo is free to use for personal, educational, and professional purposes. You do not need an account and you do not need our permission to use a calculator or to link to a page. You may use results from the calculators in your own coursework, teaching materials, notes, and research without attribution, although attribution is appreciated.

Accuracy, and the limits of it

This section is the one that matters most, so please read it rather than skipping ahead.

The calculators are built on established scientific libraries and standard atomic weights, and we take accuracy seriously. Even so, every calculator here operates on stated assumptions, and results are only valid within them. Strong acid and base calculations assume complete dissociation. Gas law calculations assume ideal behaviour, which is a poor approximation at high pressure or low temperature. Solution calculations assume ideal mixing and a stated reference temperature. Where an assumption changes the answer materially, the page says so, but the responsibility for deciding whether an assumption fits your situation is yours.

The site is provided for study and reference. It is not a validated analytical method, not laboratory software, and not a safety control. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for preparing a reagent, running a reaction, interpreting an analytical result, or making any decision where an error could cause harm, injury, loss, or damage to equipment. Verify anything consequential independently, and follow your institution's procedures and the relevant safety data sheets.

The site and its content are provided on an as is and as available basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site, including any loss arising from reliance on a calculated result.

Availability

The site is run by one person and is offered without any uptime guarantee. It may be unavailable for maintenance, may change, and may be discontinued. Individual calculators may be modified or removed. We will avoid breaking things gratuitously, but you should not build a workflow that depends on the site being available at a particular moment.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Intellectual property

The written explanations, page layouts, design, and site name are the property of the operator. The underlying scientific facts, formulas, and constants are not owned by anyone and you are free to use them, as you would be from any textbook. Numerical results produced by the calculators are yours to use freely.

Teachers and lecturers wanting to reproduce explanatory text in course materials should ask at contact@chemistrygo.com. Reasonable educational requests are generally granted. Linking to any page never requires permission.

ChemistryGo is built on open source scientific software, including RDKit and ChemPy, which remain the property of their respective authors and are used under their own licences.

Advertising

The site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisements are selected and delivered by Google, not by us, and their presence is not an endorsement of the advertiser or its products. We do not sell placements directly and do not accept sponsored content or paid links. How advertising cookies work is described in our privacy policy.

Links to other sites

Where we link to an external resource, we do so because it seemed useful. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New Jersey. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force.
