Privacy Policy

ChemistryGo is a free set of chemistry calculators operated by Michael Goldsmith, a sole proprietor based in New Jersey, United States. This policy explains what information the site handles, why it is handled, and what choices you have. It is written to be read rather than skimmed, and we have deliberately avoided describing practices we do not actually follow.

The short version

You do not need an account to use ChemistryGo. We never ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying detail in order to run a calculation. We do not sell personal information to anyone, and we do not build advertising profiles ourselves. The calculations you submit are processed and returned, not stored against your identity.

Information we collect

Server logs

Like almost every website, our web server records a line for each request it serves. Those lines include your IP address, the page or resource requested, the date and time, the referring page if your browser sent one, and your browser user agent string. We use these logs to keep the site running, to diagnose errors, and to identify abusive traffic such as automated scraping. They are not used to build a profile of you and they are not shared with advertisers. Logs rotate and are deleted on an ordinary schedule.

Calculation inputs

When you use a calculator, the values you enter, such as a chemical formula, a concentration, or an equation, are sent to our server so the result can be computed and returned to your browser. These inputs are not linked to an account, because there are no accounts. They are not written to a database for later analysis, and they are not sold or shared. Please do not type personal or confidential information into a chemistry calculator field. There is no reason to, and we cannot be responsible for information you volunteer where it is not needed.

Cookies

ChemistryGo itself does not set tracking cookies, does not use browser local storage to follow you between visits, and does not run its own analytics package. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change goes live.

Advertising and third parties

ChemistryGo is free to use, and we intend to cover its running costs through advertising served by Google AdSense. Where those ads appear, Google and its partners act independently of us and may use cookies or similar technologies.

Specifically, third party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

We do not control what data those third parties collect, and we do not receive personal information back from them. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one. Google's policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

Who the site is for

ChemistryGo is built for secondary school, college, and university level chemistry, and for anyone working with chemical calculations professionally. It is a general audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

Because we do not operate accounts or maintain a customer database, we hold very little that could identify you. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold about you, and to object to its processing. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined in the Act.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the address below. Where a request concerns server log entries, please include the approximate dates and the IP address in question, since that is the only way we could locate the relevant records.

Security and retention

The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted in transit. Server logs are retained only as long as they are useful for operating and securing the site, and are then rotated out and deleted. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we keep the software stack patched and the attack surface small.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page will be updated and the change described here. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
